US Port Strikes Ends with Tentative Agreement

As of now, the U.S. port strike has officially ended following a tentative agreement between the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX). Here are the key details regarding the current status:
Overview of the Agreement
Tentative Deal: The ILA and USMX reached a tentative agreement on wages and extended their existing contract until January 15, 2025. This extension allows both parties to continue negotiations on other outstanding issues.
Wage Increase
The agreement includes a significant wage increase of approximately 61.5% over the next six years. This was a central demand from the union, which had initially sought a 77% increase.
Impact of the Strike
Duration and Scope: The strike lasted for three days and affected 14 major ports along the East Coast and Gulf Coast, disrupting operations and causing a backlog of ships waiting to unload.
