Household Goods Shipping Update
July 9, 2026
With each headline about the situation in the Middle East, I start working on a newsletter, but thankfully I get interrupted and do not finish it the same day. Which is a good thing because if I did get something out, the news would change as you were reading it.
Yes, the strait briefly opened; however, I think the most ships that have transited in one day were about 10. Multiple others have been hit by missiles as they’ve attempted to pass through, or at a minimum, have been told to turn around. With that, I think I can safely say that shipping will remain disrupted for the remainder of the year.
We still have been providing service in the area; however, things do take much longer than normal. Patience is key!
Asia-North America rates have soared in June as retailers have decided to get ahead of the holiday season. This was annoyingly evident on my trip to Costco two weeks ago. See picture below, but know I was not impressed.
Domestically, we remain extremely busy. We are seeing many rush moves, which we have not seen in a long time; thankfully, our independence gives us the ability to cover most of them. A massive thank you to our partners for this! Again, I encourage you to initiate moves as soon as possible and also confirm the people really need to move right away.
As mentioned in my last couple of newsletters, the number of moving and storage companies out there continues to decline. With less competition, we are seeing higher rates. I feel this pushback against hyper-competitive pricing is ramping up from the folks who are most impacted.
As always, the best way to mitigate these challenges is to initiate relocations sooner rather than later so our teams have more time to find the best options for your relocating transferees.
